Anyone else follow Jessi Lang (of Motor Trend video fame) on Twitter? She has a 2013 WRX that crapped the bed after 2 laps of a Time Attack challenge this past weekend.
This comes as she continues to recover from a nearly-fatal crash while filming an episode of The J-Turn a few years ago.

The newest that the WRX could be is a 2014 as it’s the last gen.

I’ll edit that. I couldn’t find where she says what year it is and I’m not a Subaru expert.

And no warranty as it happened at the track, I bet.

Aww, blues town... mental note, check oil when leaving the office today.

If it happened because of a defective part, they may well still cover the repair.

Judging how much oil my 2013 subaru eats, that was most likely what happened. Sad day indeed.

Welcome to Subaru ownership!

A Subaru blew up while driving hard? Wow, what a shocker...

Even parts warranties have racing and off road disclaimers on them. I look forward to the outcome.

I follow her and like her work. Bummer about the WRX. I’m curious why it crapped out on her.

I don’t think subaru has any reason to do anything for her...

Tracked a car and it blew up. Subaru, fix it. I don’t care what the disclosure says.
Send it off to brentuning and have them give it the works. You can afford it, lady, Doctor lady.

Interesting. I spent all day lapping a similar Rex at the ring last year. No problems at all.

I know some people who have gotten pretty generous coverage from SOA, and 2 laps just doesn’t seem like it should have been enough to cause that kind of overheating and failure. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. the media attention probably doesn’t hurt here case either....

Let’s give here some credit and assume that fluids were checked before hopping on track.
Being at a race shop the previous day for a brake job give solid supporting evidence that this adventure was walked into with eyes wide open.

A friend of mine rebuilt his Speedway bike motor, forgot to oil it and seized it at the first turn. I was surprised it ran that long. Compared to this, he is lucky, only one cylinder.

No, in fact I don’t even have a twitter. Never had the desire....until NOW.

Good lord, I mean I work for a Subaru dealership and I have seen Subaru be absolute saints when it comes to warranty repairs more often than not, but, like, she’s got an internet’s worth of proof that this happened while tracking the car. You should noooooooot expect warranty coverage for items related to racing.

It’s a 2013.

:( She’s been through some real sh!t since her autobahn crash. Definitely didn’t need a seized EJ255 on top of all that. I do look forward to seeing her back hosting for Motortrend on the regular though!
She and Tony Angelo are my favorite hosts now that Carlos Lago left.
Side note: Anybody know why Carlos left Motortrend??

He went to Edmunds. I assume he just got a better offer, but I don’t know for sure.

Oh! Good to know.
You can see how often I keep up with Edmunds haha

Pretty sure he left Edmunds as well, he was on The Smoking Tire last week.

He’s actually not with Edmunds anymore as of very recently. They talked about it on a recent Smoking Tire podcast.

I have a friend who has a Flyin’ Miata Exocet. Before he bought the Miata he was conducting a WRX, with the intent of doing a kit on it (factory 5 or something? I don’t know Subaru things at all). He was looking at these with the intent to use it adjust entirely on track. He went with the Miata specifically because Subarus are known to have oiling issues when driven hard on track.
